Before the sun is up, I am on the road, driving towards my beloved.
The night is silent as the life of the Earth has yet to wake up.
Only the rumble of an old engine is alive in the darkness, a darkness littered with shards of light.
My eyes are still weary as they wish to close and allow sleep to extinguish the fire behind them.
The music off the radio will suffice as my caffeine.
My engine is joined by others along the way, more machines roaring through a restless journey.
No conversations, only a passing echo of nameless sound.
As the journey shortens, light makes its way into the sky.
The sun offers an orange glow to the sky and a shining beam into my vision.
Along the way the engine stops and rests, allowing my body to be released from the chrome prison.
The air is always cold as it pierces through my body and the bodies of countless strangers.
Life is waking up, the wheels are beginning to turn at the start of this new day.
My journey is not over as I return to my car, compacted in its uncomfortable seat.
My engine roars again as I push towards my destination.
The hours have finally passed and I will soon be there.
Be patient, my love, I'm coming home.

Winter Romance
Come to the fire, my dear,
where we can be warm.
Does it not inspire, my dear,
on a night amidst a storm?
Let us decorate the tree, my dear,
and string it with many lights.
Does the star not shine free, my dear,
among the winter sights?
Let me serve you hot drink, my dear,
and keep you close to me.
Can you not see what I think, my dear,
of you, my winter company?
Let me wrap your gift, my dear,
and place the paper bow.
I promise to be swift, my dear,
to return and love you so.
Stand under the mistletoe, my dear,
and let me caress your face.
Promise to never go, my dear,
never leave this warm embrace.
where we can be warm.
Does it not inspire, my dear,
on a night amidst a storm?
Let us decorate the tree, my dear,
and string it with many lights.
Does the star not shine free, my dear,
among the winter sights?
Let me serve you hot drink, my dear,
and keep you close to me.
Can you not see what I think, my dear,
of you, my winter company?
Let me wrap your gift, my dear,
and place the paper bow.
I promise to be swift, my dear,
to return and love you so.
Stand under the mistletoe, my dear,
and let me caress your face.
Promise to never go, my dear,
never leave this warm embrace.

Ode To False Love
What did I see in you
when I felt my heart slow down
those few years ago?
You were plain and simple when
things were different and rough.
The slightest gestures were
warm and comforting.
I lived in silence
until your voice sang
to a man dormant.
There was no returning.
We were so young.
We had to grow.
We grew together
in innocence, carefree and spirited.
I awaited the drawn out nights
after tedious days.
I waited impatiently
when you were far from me.
I wept as you did
during our last farewell.
I did not want to leave
when you took your own path.
I could not keep you
from your own life.
I spoke with fear of
pushing you away. You left
without remorse.
I have since found the one
and I have learned
the meaning of pure love.
I was given breath
I once thought lost.
Why did I give
my air to you?
Did you ask for it?
Did you want it?
Why were you ever worthy
of love so deep?
Was it love at all?
I grow with disbelief.
when I felt my heart slow down
those few years ago?
You were plain and simple when
things were different and rough.
The slightest gestures were
warm and comforting.
I lived in silence

Downstairs
There was never enough time
but time was endless.
Seeing you come outside,
with tiny steps,
your hand clutching hers.
Leaves danced in the air above
our tiny paradise of childhood,
still present in my mind.
These days were constant,
but yesterday was perfect
in our jubilant youth.
Why couldn't I part
with the one like a brother?
Why did the day's end
bring upon a sadness?
Why couldn't I let you go
when you were merely downstairs?
but time was endless.
Seeing you come outside,
with tiny steps,
your hand clutching hers.
Leaves danced in the air above
our tiny paradise of childhood,
still present in my mind.
These days were constant,
but yesterday was perfect
in our jubilant youth.
Why couldn't I part
with the one like a brother?
Why did the day's end
bring upon a sadness?
Why couldn't I let you go
when you were merely downstairs?
